About Me
During the early/mid 80's in San Francisco, my fascination with the exploding underground music scene included multiple jaunts to smokey clubs and dive bars like The Stone on Broadway, Full Moon Saloon on Haight Street, The Kennel Club on Divisidero, Hotel Utah in SoMa, Keystone Palo Alto, and Niles Station in the East Bay. I watched unknown bands in their infancy play for no more than 40 people on random Tuesday nights.... Unbelievable just how many of these bands became so much more than opening acts....like.... Exodus, Testament, Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, Jane's Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. In order to pay my college tuition and growing bar tabs, I began selling the custom clothes I created to local bands, friends, and the multitude of Bike Messengers who held Court at 'The Wall' in The City's Financial District. My life changed in 1985 when I met some heavyweights in Music Production at an industry tradeshow. My obnoxious ability to verbally spar/banter for the sheer Shock Value (think Dennis Miller on intravenous Ritalin), I was invited to interview for a Production Assistant position. My commitment to General Debauchery, yet ever so feminine demeanor, meshed well with industry veterans who, after a relatively short yet obligatory initiation of constant browbeating, accepted me as one of their own. For the next 8 years, I crewed for some of the biggest names in rock including The Who, Pink Floyd, Def Leppard, U2, David Bowie, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Aerosmith, Kiss, Yes, and The Rolling Stones.... plus a few more. Along the way "Production Assistant" turned to "Wardrobe Tech" which ultimately evolved into "Wardrobe Director".... I waited until I was almost 30 to start a family, knowing that touring would no longer be an option. When my first daughter was born so was my company, Public Nuisance Apparel. I turned the sewing skills I had mastered on the road into a fairly lucrative business creating custom stage clothes for many of the artists I once worked for and a few others who found me through word of mouth. I have never advertised or "Marketed" my clothes, as no two are alike. I have been fortunate to do what makes me happy, creating custom gear for longtime industry clients and friends. As far as my Notorious history in an industry few get to truly experience first hand.... I mean how many people have seen Pink Floyd play The Palace of Versailles in France as well as The Berlin Wall in West Berlin prior to The Wall coming down? Or have sat in a Paris hotel room at 5am smoking cigarettes, drinking red wine and talking art with Keith Richards and Ron Wood (at least I THINK they were talking about art?).... Or contemplated the nature of the Universe after smoking a fatty with John Entwistle? (- John E. you are missed ~ Thx 4 the ride of my life! As a woman in a male dominated industry, I absolutely know that I was successful based on this one true fact; I never compromised my integrity for ANYTHING or ANYONE...not once. And because of this, I still have the respect and friendship of those I have worked with in the past, and those I continue to work with today. One true trait that I have noticed in the few women that have carved out a lifelong career in this industry is that they are extremely supportive of each other. I have very few women friends who are not industry vets.... I’D LIKE TO THINK it's because I can't stomach how most women rip each other apart...BUT IT'S MOST LIKELY because of my foul mouth, infantile sense of humor, and general distain of anything Mainstream! "This one goes to eleven"
