At last years Ozzfest I saw my first black metal band at a live concert, Cthonic, which is where my interest in black metal was first peaked. I was later on invited to go see a Dimmu Borgir headlining show, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was wondering if there were any other good Black metal bands out there,. If someone could give me a name I'll gladly look into it.

We assume - So we're played
We confide - So we're deceived
We trust - So we're betrayed

I second all of these bands, and would add:
Satyricon
Immortal
(old) Mayhem
Dissection
Ominous Grief
Taake
Abigor
Windir
...And Oceans
(old) Samael (new Samael is good, but it's industrial)
Burzum
Diabolical Masquerade
Arcturus (newer stuff is a bit more avant-garde)
Sigh (except for Gallows Gallery)
Peste Noire
Marduk
If you want some viking type stuff, try Borknagar, Enslaved, and Bathory

My favorites are Emperor, Bathory, and old Mayhem. they've already been mentioned but those are my favorites. I don't mind some Dimmu but I don't listen to them that often really.

Children of the night
They shall rise again
Shining like the blood of forgotten unlight
By nocturnal powers fall into the abyss
Slaves of gods - prepare to die
Prepare to die

i triple suggest diabolical masquerade though, if you like chthonic.
very theatrical. somewhat similar to chthonic, but a lot better.

Cock rock? More like industrial/electronic. I don't know why so many bands tend to do this (looking at Burzum, Ulver, Samael etc here).

I think jimbob pretty much covered it, I emphasize 1349 and their CD Hellfire, I love it I love it!
I didn't see Dark Funeral or Naglfar in his list, check it dude! But there's plenty of underground Black Metal, you gotta just look for it.
Mournful night, attractive night,
your dark beauty possesses me.

You didn't see Dark Funeral because I personally dislike them. Naglfar is good though

They just tend to over do it and focus on the image more than the music imo.
